The Green Girl Officially Has Posterior Tibial Tendonitis

The Green Girl finally broke down after three months and went to see a licensed professional – a podiatrist today. He confirmed my self-diagnosis of posterior tibial tendonitis. The good news – the silver lining, if you will – is that he was impressed I was still capable of doing on my tiptoes without any pain. He said that means the tendon is still working to a certain extent.

He taped up my foot with an arch pad and he wants me to leave it on for a week and see if it helps. If it does help, he recommends I get some custom orthotics.

I miss running so much. At first, I was watching movies about running and listening to running podcasts while I commuted to my new job. Now I’m at the point that I can’t even read an issue of Runner’s World because it makes me so depressed. I haven’t been posting because I can’t bring myself to write about my lack of running. I also feel like there’s nothing I can do for a prolonged period of time. The elliptical and the stationary bike make my foot hurt, too. I keep saying I’ll go swimming but for some reason, I can’t get myself to get my stuff together and go.

When I asked him about the San Francisco Half Marathon, he refused to give me a straight response but commented that ‘wasn’t much time’.

I just got back from swimming! You should do it! I went to Peck park pool-the local community pool that I had driven past for years and I loved it! And I HATE swimming!!! Get out there and swim. It will make you feel SO MUCH better!!! It’s not running but it will give you exercise and you will feel like you’ve exercised!!!!

I really am so sorry you have this injury! But I am very glad you did go to see a podiatrist and that you know what it is!! And i highly recommend custom orthotics! I use mine everyday and run in mine all the time. They aren’t cheap but they are so worth the money!!!

thanks for stopping by my site, but sorry to hear you’re injured too. hang in there, i know it sucks, but like Penny said, if you can get out there and swim, you should!! I was that type too… just kept saying i would, never did, but i’m actually enjoying it now, and feel like i’m at least doing something while I can’t run. it’ll help keep your fitness up too for when you’re ready to pound the pavement again! :D

  4. [...] My right foot was feeling pretty good after being all taped up with arch support for almost a week, so instead of walking the entire thing, I decided to see if I could jog some of it. I walked up to the Starting Line and then I started carefully jogging. When I didn’t feel any pain, I relaxed and started running. I guess my body was so excited to run again that it forgot that I’m the Slow Running Green Girl and when I looked at Mr. Green Garmin, I discovered I was doing a 10.5 minute mile! I slowed down immediately because I didn’t want to push my foot too much. [...]

  7. [...] My right arch is finally doing much better after getting the magical* orthotics. It’s amazing to me that those inserts can make such a noticeable difference in how I feel when I can’t even tell I’m wearing them. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining – just making an observation. [...]
